- Private Real Life Obedience Training

Teaching your dog the skills they will need in the Real World.
Beneficial to puppies and adult dogs of all ages.
2 Hour initial visit includes goals for you and your pooch, training begins and homework!
(As if you missed it from school days! Don’t worry this is much more fun!)
Depending on what your dog is in need of, I teach the following:

Sit
Down
Stay
Look (Focus on handler)
Come
Loose leash walking
All fours kept on the floor!
A very effective method to teach your dog an appropriate greeting without jumping
Stop (Dog stops moving with command)
Heel

- Private Behavior Consultations

An initial 2 hour Consultation is scheduled to target your dog's issues and address his needs.
We then agree on realistic goals and I create a behavior program that you and your dog can work
into your everyday life and see success with. Each follow up session is an hour and a half.
Some of the behaviors addressed are but not limited to:

Barking
Chewing
Digging
Dog aggression (in or outside of the home)
Human aggression (in or outside of the home)
Food and possession aggression
Redirected aggression
Territoriality
Tail chasing, Self mutilation (lick wounds) and other obsessive behaviors

- Weight Pull 101 –

Private instruction available to teach you and your dog to see the most success
in the amazing sport of weight pull! This is a sport I have loved and practiced with my dogs for years.
Being successful in weight pull means an owner/dog connection and the dog being taught in a responsible,
safe and motivating way. No equipment necessary for initial training session.
In the first session I will bring my equipment and explain the pros and cons of weight pull
(when it is done correctly and when it is not) and also cover a list of what you will need to get started.
Caution: This is an extremely addicting sport!

- Pre Adoption Evaluations -

If you are interested in bringing a new family member into your life then contact me,
and I will be happy to professionally evaluate the puppy or dog for you.
This will help you decide if he is the right fit for your family.
If the puppy or dog is at a shelter, with a rescue or breeder on LI or in the five boroughs
then I will make arrangements with them to meet the puppy or dog.
Your attendance for the evaluation is strongly suggested.

Do you own an American Pit Bull Terrier?
Do you need training or behavior advice? Contact me.
I am a proud owner and trainer of this amazing breed and have been for many years.
Sadly there are still many trainers who have two schools of thought on the APBT:

1. They do not entirely trust the breed.

2. The second type of trainer is the person who needs to satisfy their own ego
by using harsh techniques and training devices to so called,
prove how ‘macho and tough’ they are.

Give your dog what he or she deserves,
a trainer who holds this breed in the highest regard.
All dogs and their owners deserve to be
treated with respect and positive motivation.
If you hire someone to help you with training or behavior advice
be aware of the techniques the person practices.
If you notice any of the following
grab your dog and run far, far away! And don’t look back!

- Collar corrections
- Shock collars
- Harsh verbal corrections or constant “No” / “Bad Dog”
- Appears uneasy or unsure in the presence of your dog
- Appears uneasy or unsure if handling your dog
- Has too confident an attitude – the trainer WILL get your dog to comply!
- Physical manipulation of your dog to get him to do what the trainer wants
- The trainer does not exhibit patience with your dog or you for that matter.
It took time for undesirable behaviors to be learned,
it will take time for desirable behaviors to now take the place.
Any trainer who loses their patience is not the appropriate person to work with.

* *Available to Shelters and Rescue Groups* *

- Individual Dog Evaluations -

Once I have assessed the dog I will recommend what type of training or
behavior program will be most successful for that specific dog while at the shelter.
The program will strengthen the dog’s desirable skills and if consistently practiced
will increase the dog’s adoptability or manageability.

- Individual or Group Dog Training and Behavior Programs -

– Programs target various issues such as but not limited to:
- Basic manners
- Obedience
- Food and possession aggression
- Human aggression
- Dog aggression
- Predatory aggression
- Redirected aggression
- Fear issues or aggression
- Stress and frustration
- Blind and disabled dogs
- Self mutilation (lick wounds), tail chasing and other obsessive behaviors

- Reducing Kennel Stress Program -
Kennel stress plays a significant role in having a negative effect in your
shelter dog’s behavior on a daily basis. This also transfers over to the behavior
that is seen when staff and volunteers have the dogs out of their kennels.
Ultimately it does affect your dog adoptions and the way the dogs are viewed by the public.

- Shelter or Rescue Staff Training -
Sessions are available to train the staff or individual members
on how to evaluate and/or train dogs.
Depending on the goals different topics will be discussed.

Zen Dog is a reflection of my training philosophy
that dogs are at their best when they are balanced.
I practice motivational methods with any dog that I work with.
I motivate the dog to want to work with me and teach owners or
individual handlers the success that is seen using that method.
I firmly believe in rewarding a dog for their appropriate behaviors
and not waiting for them to fail only to correct them.
Dogs are very loyal and want to please their owners;
we need to teach them how! Because each dog is different,
I evaluate dogs on an individual basis and incorporate what
will motivate and reward that particular dog.

I work with dogs or all breeds, ages and temperaments.
I have spent many years evaluating, training and creating programs for dogs and their owners,
shelter dogs and semi feral or feral dogs. I have also incorporated programs to teach aspiring trainers,
comprised instruction to teach animal shelter staff and volunteers appropriate handling techniques.
Teach shelter staff how to properly implement canine behavior programs.
I continue to create shelter programs to
reduce stress, anxiety, fear and aggression in dogs.

I have an immense amount of respect for dogs and continue to encourage
the use of motivational techniques and positive rewards for a job well done.
I always strongly suggest avoiding discipline trainers that use
corrections and shock collars to communicate to dogs.
Do yourself and your dog a favor and DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
THEY WILL MAKE YOUR DOG WORSE REGRDLESS OF HOW MUCH THEY PROMISE!

In order to work with dogs and be successful,
whether you are a canine owner, handler or trainer – there must be a foundation of respect.
Once there is that understanding you can then proceed in your training process.

Keeping your dog balanced is key.

We feel strongly that our dogs deserve the best – and so do yours!

as well as the Body.
